Cradle and cross are inextricably connected on the fourth Sunday of Advent. Between a
\nlovely tribute to the little town of Bethlehem and Mary\u2019s magnificent song of praise, the
\nletter to the Hebrews reminds us in no uncertain terms that Christ\u2019s advent is for \u201cthe
\noffering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.\u201d It is the kind of tension in which the
\nchurch always lives as when in holy communion\u2014with high delight\u2014\u201cwe proclaim the
\nLord\u2019s death.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
